Hello!
My name is Kevin Jackson. Thank you for taking the time to look at my portfolio. I am twenty three years old and am completing my sixth and final year of University this December. I have previously completed my first degree of music performance, where I majored on classical trombone. During these four years I gained valuable life skills and knowledge which I confidently bring with me to the classroom. Some of my personal highlights from my time in the music department include being the section leader as well as the principal trombonist for both the Wind Orchestra and the University Big Band, running clinics with brass players ranging from grade six to grade twelve, and spending time in the recording studio with various groups. I have played with many other groups throughout the city including the Lethbridge big band, the Groove Apostles, the Lethbridge community brass band, and I even got the chance to play with the National Youth Band of Canada in 2014. I have also spent my years in Lethbridge founding and leading the University of Lethbridge Jazz Combo, as well as the KDM Jazz Trio which gigs frequently throughout the city. I have recently had the opportunity to play principal trombone in the Symphony of the Kootenays. This time has helped me develop as a person and has reinforced my love for teaching and learning.
I have spent most of my life in Wetaskiwin Alberta where I was raised but Lethbridge has become my home. During my time in Wetaskiwin I was inspired by my band teacher who used his passion and extensive knowledge to make his students excited to be the best musicians they could. This made me want to impact students the way he influenced me.
Outside of school and music, I have a few other hobbies which include hiking and running. I love doing anything outside whether it is raining, sunny or even windy, which works out well living where we do. I have done many races including a half marathon and leg four of the Canadian Death Race which entailed a 38 KM run through the mountains of Grande Cache Alberta. I feel that running is a great time to destress and just think as well as being a great way to stay in shape. I also love soccer and had the chance to play on the Pronghorns team here at the university in my first year. I enjoyed the teamwork and athleticism that was required to be on the team.

When I thought about what age group I wanted to teach I always pictured that it would
be at a high school level and I was nervous about what a placement in elementary would be
like. During my ED-2500 course I was placed in a grade five classroom in Lethbridge and
absolutely loved it. I thought the excitement and creativity of the younger minds was genuine
and refreshing. During this time I had a great TA who helped me and even allowed me to teach
a lesson in LA and a music lesson to the class. I really enjoyed my time with the grade fives and
am excited to see what a new grade will bring.

I am excited to learn from my TA in the classroom and cannot wait to draw from their
wealth of knowledge. Lethbridge and the surrounding area has such a strong set of teachers
and working under one will be very beneficial for me as a student teacher. I am looking forward
to being able to be committed to a classroom on a larger scale than that of my ED-2500 course
and hope to be able to help with anything I can.
